Feedback: Eleven Miles

This morning, I received the following email from a reader of Eleven Miles.

I’ve literally just finished your book. Wow! What an amazing story and so beautifully written. Boi is such an inspiration and her positive outlook on everything she does is not only inspiring but also very humbling. It certainly makes you think about how you can improve yourself and also how much we take for granted.

I really hope you decide to write another book about what happens next with Boi. I would also love to know what she did next.

Her story would make a very moving and beautiful film.

Thank you so much for sharing her story with me. I feel empowered to be a better person and to also not take things for granted.

Thank you.

Boi

It has truly made my day.

I feel fantastic! Wouldn’t you?

    • There WILL be a sequel. I promise.

However, I have another book to concentrate on first. It is the story of a teenage boy in Hong Kong in the ‘seventies, and how he teaches a little Chinese orphan girl to walk after the clinical specialists had said that she would never be able to walk.

      • Sounds really interesting. Is there any chance of you sharing an excerpt of your new book with my readers? I’m sure they would love it! What is the title of your new book?

      • The book will be called “Knitting Can Walk.” That may not make immediate sense, but “Knitting” is the nickname of the little girl.

And yes, when I have written enough to merit the label of “excerpt”, I will be delighted to let you have something to share with your readers. Just promise to tell them that it is a first draft and may be subject to a few revisions before it finally hits the streets.

  3. Here’s some supplementary feedback from the same reader, who works in the ticket office of my local railway station. When I thanked her for her kind words and asked her if she’d cried at all while reading Boi’s story, she replied:

I did indeed shed a tear or two! That’s when you know that a book has been written beautifully when the person reading it is sharing the emotion of the characters. I am already telling people about it especially at the station. People see the book and ask me what it’s about etc so hopefully they’ll buy it too.

  5. I just got the following from another reader of Eleven Miles:

I read Eleven Miles a few weeks back and enjoyed it enormously; you get into the Botswanan psyche in a similar fashion to Alexander McCall Smith and have the language and syntax down to a tee.
