Happy Monday to you all and welcome, once again, to Esther Chilton’s regular kick-off-the-week challenge.
Today, Esther’s one-word prompt is LARK. So can you write a limerick using the word LARK in it somewhere?
As an Ocado driver last year, my favourite listening on my route was Classic FM. Every year, the listeners vote for their favourite classical piece. In 2021, the number one in the Classic FM Hall of Fame was Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “The Lark Ascending.” Listen to it. It may inspire you to write and amazing LARK limerick.
If you prefer to side-step the weekly prompt, please feel free to ignore it and write a limerick to suit your current mood and feelings. Just let it flow. Delight us all with your creativity.

I’m very rarely up with the lark
Early attendance I get a black mark
Just goes to show staying up late
Does not myself an early bird make
I get up so late, its already gone dark!

Sounds like the musings of a pyjamas-all-day-girl to me!

I took to sea on a lark
on an ancient sailing bark
I had some fun
in the sun
but got burned real dark
*
I heard the meadowlark sing
a song guaranteed for tears to bring
quite a treat
both sad and sweet
and as fresh as early Spring

Two good ones in your usual quick response, Trent.
You pulled the trigger too quickly though. As an ex-naval officer, I feel that it is my duty to point out that there is such a thing as three-masted sailing vessel, which is called a BARQUE.
You’d have to be very small and light to sail very far on a piece of bark! 🙂

Quite light indeed! In my defense, looking it up I find “A barque, barc, or bark is a type of sailing vessel with three or more masts…” so although your spelling is the correct one, it can be spelled with a “k” 😉

Thanks, Esther! For some reason the limericks on a word, 6-word stories (actually, the 100 word FF stories!) always come pretty much stream of conscience as soon as I see the prompt. i wish other writing came that easily!

Bony Tony was a naughty boy.
A prank as a lark was his favourite joy.
Stink bombs he dropped
Until he was stopped
By a teacher who Tony annoyed.

A lark ascending, by and by,
Was heard to muse, ‘I wonder why
Vaughan Williams thought it quite normal
To keep our friendship very formal,
And never, in public, call me Sky?’

This is beautiful.
Thanks.

Was addicted to cocaine and caffeine,
Got up with the lark
Retired when t’was dark –
And was productive all hours in between!
