Three weeks back, when I published a quote for Writer’s Quote Wednesday hosted by Silverthreading, entitled The Chrysalis Moment, I promised you another quote from Sir Richard Branson.
During my working life, I have led, and even formed, several teams of people. When we build our initial list of objectives, I always write down the same number one: to have fun. My theory, which seems to work, is that if we are enjoying our work, we deliver better and with good quality. High morale is infectious. We find that our customers and our partners enjoy working with us and want more. Customers who want more are happy to pay more for the privilege, so the business grows and flourishes.
So, if I surround myself with great people and I treat them very well, I get the best out of them and the whole team benefits. On my own I am nothing. With a team of people who enjoy working for me, I can be very successful. In line with all that I have said, I make sure that when we get together to celebrate the team’s success I give credit to those who deserve it.
The importance of taking care of your employees cannot be over-emphasized. Never forget this.
Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.
Sir Richard Branson

The world would be a much better place if all business leaders not only thought this way but acted upon it.

Good common sense Lance. If the staff are happy the work gets done well, if they’re not, then ……
